Now it is time to MEET YOUR LOCAL ARTIST:  LANA PETROCCHI

Lana’s Creations produces all handmade items such as jean purses, and sports totes for local teams and custom orders for most others.  She also makes pet beds, dog treat jars, lavender neck and eye pillows, potholder sets, walker/wheelchair bags and baby blankets to name a few.  All items are one of a kind and her jean bags are original designs.

Lana‘s RWC roots go back a long way- she first learned to sew by taking a summer school class in the 7th grade at Kennedy Middle School.  She challenged herself to learn new techniques and sew much more difficult projects, amazed at what she could create with a bunch of fabric and notions.

With two kids, Lana made all their Halloween costumes, Christmas and Easter outfits, a 1st Holy communion dress, and flower girl dresses.  This led to some commissions to sew various costumes and dresses for various customers plus some alterations and repair work.

Fifteen years ago Lana worked in a San Carlos fabric store giving sewing lessons to girls 6 to 13.  She eventually taught from her home, hoping to “bring back the lost art of sewing.”  Lana says with pride, “I had some students that created beautiful and well constructed products.  To this day, I have run into Moms of those students and find that they are still sewing!”

To contact Lana for some of her cool merchandise, or to make a custom order, e-mail her at lanap59@comcast.net.  Better yet, do come and see her on Saturday at ART in the Square, on Hamilton, and check out her creations in person, and visit all the wonderful artists, and appreciate all the amazing local art and artists in and around RWC.

And don’t forget you can enter to win a $25 gift certificate at any artist booth on Hamilton.  The drawing will be at 2:45 in the Square and you must be present to win.

Thanks for your support of PAL and local Art.

And remember, to always follow your H’art!

Special thanks to RWC Parks and Rec and to the San Mateo County Arts Commission for their support.
