The East Oakland Sideshow When My Friend Got Shot

He was only 11 years old, too young to die.

On a Saturday in 2010 around 9 p.m. in East Oakland around 84th Street, there was a sideshow like any other Saturday.

A "sideshow" is when everyone in East Oakland comes together on one street. They have nice cars and start doing donuts, when cars slam on the accelerator and suddenly spin in circles.

Things got out of hand and the cars swerved faster and faster, even running over some people. People started getting angry and fighting and shooting each other.

The next thing I knew, my 11-year-old friend got shot in the head.

He was taken to the hospital and a few days later he died.

I was feeling very sad and kind of mad because he was so young. He was a very close friend and I knew him though my brother.

Where are the cops?

The cops are often too slow and they usually come when everyone is gone and when the fights are over.
