VIDEO: Seventh Graders Explore City’s History

In honor of National Historic Preservation month, all seventh graders in the district went on a history tour.

“Did you know that the movie ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ with Robin Williams was filmed in this old courthouse?” a docent asked Austri Fletcher’s seventh grade class.

“Whoa!” some seventh graders exclaimed.

This was just one of the fun trivia facts laced into the history tours that Redwood City School District seventh graders learned on Monday. All classes will visit the Lathrop House, the old San Mateo County Courthouse (currently the County History Museum) and the historic Fox Theatre.

“Many of the kids will say ‘Oh, I know all about Redwood City,’” said Fox Theatre docent Hilary Paulson. “But then they really learn how old the city is and how important it was to the development of the Peninsula.”
