Video: Ira Bids Mayor Job ‘Farewell’

Mayor Jeff Ira reflects on the changes to the city in his two years as mayor.

At Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Ira will step down and a new mayor and vice mayor will be selected.

Questions for Mayor Ira:

  • Are you more relieved or sad that your mayoral term is ending?
  • Reflect on some of the major events and changes that happened during your two-year term.
  • Who were some other staff members who were appointed?
  • How is the city and city staff as a whole different?
  • What are some changes we can expect in Redwood City in the next two years?
  • What are you looking forward to achieving and continuing as a city councilmember in your last two years?

Can we stop the wasteful EIR the city has undertaken on request by Cargill/DMB? The city doesn't need to spend taxpayer dollars on a project that will never be built. Redwood City can just say "no, thank you", to Cargill/DMB and move on.

I completely agree ... but then half or more of the city planning department would have be paid by the city again (or laid off) ... instead of being funded by DMB/Cargill for all the work they've been billing against the Car-fill-ville nonsense plan on the baylands not zoned for housing, and which the general plan designates as tidal plain / open space.

Agree, anyone with a basic grasp of the marine science fundamentals understands why the proposed Cargill development is nothing but trouble for the environment, for Redwood City, and for the Bay Area as a whole. The fact that the council chose to go ahead and waste taxpayer $ on an environmental impact report to study something where the answer is already patently obvious shows just how friendly with Cargill and corporate developer money the entire council is, not just Rosanne Foust.

For what it's worth, I understand Foust and Ira are both Republicans. Not sure about Gee and God/Jesus-fearing Seybert, but I have my suspicions ... I believe Aguirre, Bain & Pierce are Democrats. Mainstream Republicans nowadays don't seem to have a good grasp on reality (macro economics, science, etc.).

So now 20 years later we see the outcome of our demand that all projects and building permits must have an EIR. By Regulation not Law but just as powerfull. Did you vote for this? Are you picking and choosing or do you really want to do away with EIR's ?
