Redwood City Council Member Elected to Transportation Authority Board

The councilmember and former City mayor will be sworn in next month.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board (TA) reelected officers and swore-in three returning board members at its meeting earlier this week.

The Board of Directors re-elected Carole Groom, who also serves on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, as the board's chair.

Karyl Matsumoto, who represents the SamTrans board, was re-elected as vice-chair.

Supervisor Groom, Half Moon Bay City Councilmember Naomi Patridge and Burlingame City Councilmember Terry Nagel will also serve another term on the Board.

Redwood City Councilmember and former mayor Rosanne Foust will be sworn in at February’s board meeting.

One board position, recently vacated by retiring Brisbane City Councilmember Sepi Richardson, will be filled by the City Selection Committee. The position represents the northern county cities.

The Transportation Authority is responsible for administering the Measure A half-cent sales tax. The reauthorized measure, which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2009, includes new programs and projects such as ferry service to South San Francisco and Redwood City and a major infusion of tax dollars for pedestrian and bicycle projects, said Christine Dunn, spokesperson for the TA, in a statement this week.

The TA board regularly meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.
