Photos: Inspirational Women Guide Girl Scouts on Career Paths

Congresswoman Jackie Speier hosted a "When I Grow Up…" even to encourage girls to pursue their dreams.

Whether it be journalists or pilots or doctors, elementary and middle school students were inspired at an event Saturday to be whatever their hearts desired.

Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Mateo) hosted a "When I Grow Up..." event at the Redwood City downtown library Saturday morning in honor of Women's History Month.

The women invited were Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist Jan Yanehiro, civil rights leader and “Little Rock 9” member Minnijean Brown Trickey, United Airlines pilot Kathleen Wentworth, and Associate Dean of San Francisco General Hospital Dr. Sue Carlisle.

Speier stated, “The first step to make your dream come true is to have one. I want to encourage girls to reach for the stars, whether they want to become a doctor, scientist, athlete or activist.”
