Dear Editor,

As a candidate for the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and as Vice Chair of the Planning Commission for the City of Redwood City, I have had the privilege and opportunity to serve the public and to work with many civic and community leaders.

During the primary election, each of the seven candidates vying for the office on the Board of Supervisors presented his/her vision, ideas and values to a variety of audiences at least a dozen times. We came to know and respect each other through these events and some of us even before the election.

Now that the June Primary has narrowed the field to two candidates, I would like to thank those that supported me. I was and am honored to have had your support.

I have decided to endorse Warren Slocum for the Board of Supervisors and I wanted to share my reasons why.

Warren is impressive. He has solid leadership experience, a remarkable record of Accomplishment and an understanding of the county that will ensure us that we continue to move forward. Warren is committed to working collaboratively on issues facing the people who live in the unincorporated areas of the 4th district to improve the quality and safety of these neighborhoods and to meet their unique needs. I want to work with him on this important agenda. I know him to be a hard worker, someone who builds bridges between people and someone who is ready to consider new ideas. I believe that much is possible but we need a strong partner on the Board of Supervisors.

That’s why I believe Warren is the best choice for the Board of Supervisors. I have endorsed his candidacy for supervisor and urge the voters in San Mateo County to elect him to the Board in November.

Ernie Schmidt
