Ernie Schmidt Kicks Off Council Campaign in Redwood City

Written by J. Ennis Kirkland

On Friday, July 19th the kickoff party for Ernie Schmidt’s candidacy for City Council was held at the Fox Theater. The spacious lobby of the Fox hosted a crowd of citizens and numerous local politicians who support Schmidt’s candidacy. In the next election three seats for the City Council up for grabs.

Speaking for Schmidt first was Warren Slocum, newly elected County Supervisor whom Schmidt ran against during the 2012 election. Slocum applauded candidate Schmidt’s stand on the issues and ability to listen carefully to all sides before rendering judgment. Slocum went on to commend Schmidt for his many community activities, volunteerism, and support of local businesses.

When Ernie Schmidt got up to speak he centered his comments on his desire to act as the “next generation of leadership” for Redwood City. Currently the Chair of the City Planning Commission, Schmidt emphasized the need for long-term development, support of youth, schools and public safety. His passion for Redwood City and its welfare was quite evident in his short speech.
