Enroll for Free or Reduced-Price Meals

Amidst Redwood City School District lunch increases, check to see if you qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

School has started in the , which means sending the kids to school with the appropriate amount of quarters. Or maybe none at all.

With the , students who qualify for free lunch will continue receiving free lunches and those who qualify for reduced price lunch will get their lunch for free.

Children will automatically receive these benefits if their household receives assistance from the following programs:

  • Food Stamp Program (FSP)
  • California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKS)
  • Kinship Guardianship Assistance Payments (Kin-GAP)
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)

A household can decline the benefits by notifying the County Office.

Households with children enrolled in programs that have not received an application or notification from the County Office by Oct. 1 may obtain an application form from their school’s administrative office.  Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.

Children from households whose income is at or below the amounts shown in the tables (see attached) are also eligible for free or reduced-price meals.  The county defines "household" as a group of related or non-related individuals who are living as one economic unit and sharing living expenses that include rent, utilities, clothing, food and doctor bills.

A foster care child who is the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or a ward of the court may be eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals regardless of household income.  Foster children must apply separately from other children in the household, and their eligibility will be based upon their "personal use" income.
