A 71-year-old man was seriously injured after losing control of his car and crashing into another vehicle on state Highway 92 in Redwood City Saturday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said. Around 3:50 p.m., James Lucas of Half Moon Bay was heading west on Highway 92 near interstate Highway 280 in Redwood City in a 1929 Ford roadster.
For unknown reasons, he was unable to stop the car and crashed into a Mercedes stopped in front of him, according to CHP Officer Art Montiel. Lucas was thrown from the vehicle and suffered major injuries, Montiel said. He was taken to Stanford University Hospital.
The two occupants of the Mercedes involved it the collision, a 51-year-old woman and 55-year-old man, both also from Half Moon Bay, were treated for minor injuries caused by the crash, according to the CHP. Montiel said it is unknown how fast Lucas was driving at the time of the crash nor whether alcohol or drugs were a factor. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call CHP Officer T.
