Redwood City Police Hosting Virtual Ride-Along

Redwood City Police officers are hosting a virtual ride-along Friday on Twitter and bringing a bit of magic along for the ride.

Officer Ryan Adler will be in the driver’s seat of the car, making the rounds, with Officer Chris Rasmussen on the TweetDeck.

“It will be like you’re in the car with us on a ride along,” Rasmussen told Patch.  “You never know what’s going to happen,” he said.

Officer Adler is a former magician who trained tigers on the Las Vegas Strip, which should make for interesting commentary.

The Redwood City Police department is the third on the peninsula to live tweet their activities.  Palo Alto Police and the East Palo Alto Police Chief held similar events earlier this year.

Rasmussen said he will be taking questions from Redwood City residents via Twitter, and publishing photos of the duo’s adventures via the Police Department’s Twitter account @RedwoodCityPD.  The official hashtag for the event is #RCPDVRA, which he will be using throughout the day to track insights into the events that transpire on Friday.

“Dug the T-Rex is ready to go,” Rasmussen said, remarking on his latest Twitpic. Dug the T-Rex is an unofficial mascot of the police department who wears different costumes to raise morale among the police officers. His outfit changes, depending on what season it is.

Meet Officer Ryan Adler in the video attached to this post.
