Redwood City Police Nab Two in DUI Warrants Sweep

Two suspects with outstanding DUI warrants were arrested during a police sweep in Redwood City Sunday, police said.

Police officers spread out across Redwood City in search of high-risk DUI offenders Sunday.

Officers arrested two offenders who either failed to show up for a court date or violated terms of their probation in an outstanding DUI case, according to police.

Redwood City police Sgt. Neil Uyeda said anyone with a missed DUI court date should go to court on their own and said "If you don't, that warrant isn't going away. We're going to come find you and take you to jail."

Offenders who are caught by police may face additional jail time for failing to appear in court or for violating probation.

Police said special DUI warrant service operations, along with regularly scheduled 'high visibility' DUI enforcement, has encouraged safer driving and deterred drug and alcohol abuse.

Redwood City police aim their efforts at getting impaired drivers off the road while heightening awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, police said.

Funding for Sunday's operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
