Update: RWC Fireboat Christened 'Sequoia Guardian'

Ten children submitted names for the new fireboat---the new name will be announced on Sunday.

Thank you to Patch user Jim Clifford for filling us in on the name selected for the Redwood City Fire Department's new fireboat, which was introduced to the public on Sunday.

"According to battalion chief Mike O'Leary, the name is 'Sequoia Guardian.' He said it was decided to combine two of the ten finalist names," Clifford told Patch in an email Wednesday.

The community will have its first look at the Redwood City Fire Department's new fireboat this Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Port of Redwood City.

In addition, the name of the new Metal Craft Marine Fire storm 36 Fireboat will announced.

The Redwood City Fire Department crowdsourced names from children in the community and gathered more than 100 nominations.  

The 10 names that made it to the final round are:

This will be the community's first look at the new fireboat, fully funded by a federal Homeland Security/Port Security grant.
