Reception Saturday 4/26 for Roger Spinti Exhibition

An exhibition of dramatic and touching photos taken by Roger Spinti, during a Kaiser Permanente medical aid mission to typhoon-torn Philippines opens with a reception Saturday 4/26 at Keeble and Shuchat in Palo Alto. Spinti’s partner, Nurse Chris Gonzales, was part of a 30-member Kaiser Permanente team of doctors and nurses who volunteered their time in the devastated areas of the Philippines after the Typhoon Haiyan. Spinti documented the medical team’s work with Relief International in Tacloban, and in a small hospital to the east in Carigara.

Since the Kaiser Permanente medical team arrived several weeks after the typhoon, much of the medical care involved “back-filling” for Philippine doctors and nurses who were away dealing with their own family and home devastation issues.

While Nurse Chris Gonzales worked in often make-shift clinics caring for the “walking wounded” after the storm as well as those recently injured trying to rebuild, Spinti had a chance to witness the resilience of the Philippine people.

Spinti’s exhibition is called “Rise Again” and focusses on the determination of the Philippine people to carry on despite the devastation and continue some sense of “normalcy” in their daily lives after the tragedy.

The exhibition of Roger Spinti photographs is in the second floor gallery of the Keeble and Shuchat Photography store, at 290 South California Avenue in Palo Alto, and can be visited during the normal store hours at no charge. For information, call 650-327-8996 or visit kspphoto.com for more information.

A reception for the exhibition is Saturday, April 26th, 2014, from 1pm to 4pm. The original photographs are for sale and all proceeds will be donated to typhoon relief through Catholic Relief Services.
