1 week til I'm in North Carolina! Couldn't be more excited.
Alot of people have asked why I'm so inspired to attend the convention this year. The answer gets more and more clear each day.
With the extreme right wing stances and , it's more important than ever that I work as hard as I can to see our president get relected.
Not only as an LGBT activist but as a supporter of women's issues as well. It boggles my mind how ANY woman could stand behind a party that marginalizes their bodies, minds, and importance in our society.
I really feel that the RNC are out of step with the 21st century American. It brings to mind the other part of my trip east.
I'm spending the day before Charlotte traveling to Laurens County, South Carolina where the Adairs first settled in America from Ireland. As I learn more about my first settler ancestors, I reflect that I'm carrying the torch that they lit in the 1700's, by being an American Patriot. Standing up for what is right, being a part of the solution, not sitting by and letting someone else do it for me. They fought in the Revoluntionary War to free the people from oppressive rule of England.
I fight for equal rights for ALL people. Our need and civil right to have the same advantages and rights as every other American. I don't ask for anything separate or special, but equal.
As one of the 18,000 legally married same sex couples in California, we've had a taste of it, but need to make sure that everyone else can have that opportunity as well.
