Redwood City Mayor Alicia C. Aguirre will join representatives from the Port of Redwood City and sailing enthusiasts this evening for a unique fundraising event at the Sequoia Yacht Club.

The event, called the Hannig Cup, starts with a sailboat race in the early evening, with 54 boats currently signed up to race. The race is also a fundraiser with the proceeds going to a number of youth sailing and boating programs, and this year also to the Floating Doctors program, a non-profit medical relief team dedicated to reducing the burden of disease in developing communities.

The race will be followed by an informal dinner and announcements of the race winners. Mayor Aguirre will symbolically receive the community check (last year $500,000), and representatives from Floating Doctors will be in attendance for a special announcement and presentation.

The sailboat race start at 6:00 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.sequoiayc.org/.

The Sequoia Yacht Club is located at 441 Seaport Blvd., in Redwood City.
