Redwood City Identifies New Site For Farmers Market

The Redwood City Kiwanis Club announced Thursday that its Saturday Farmers Market will move to a new area of downtown Redwood City this fall.

“Through our close relationship with the city, we've been able to both find a great new site, and do our part to support the future of Downtown," said Caroline McHenry, President of the Redwood City Kiwanis Club.

The Farmers Market, currently located at the corner of Winslow and Hamilton Streets, will likely relocate to Arguello Street, north of Marshall Street, in September, according to Malcolm Smith, City of Redwood City public communications manager.

“This move is being proposed to assure that the Redwood City Kiwanis farmers market's successful operation can continue, and that it remains the wonderful Saturday morning Redwood City tradition that has endured for so many years,” Smith said.

The Farmers Market, founded in 1979, is one of the oldest on the Peninsula.

It City Council approves the move, the Farmers Market could move there on September 7. City Council is scheduled to meet on May 20th to review the move. Many are optimistic about the new location, including Alicia Aguirre, Redwood City Mayor.

"Our staff's close work with the Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market has made this transition possible, and we're very pleased to be able to come to such a positive outcome for a new location," said Redwood City Mayor Alicia Aguirre.

"I want to encourage everyone to be sure to visit the market on Saturday mornings, both at the current location and at their new home on Arguello once they relocate this fall," Aguirre said.

The Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturdays during the months of April through November.
