Group to Protest Major Banks in Redwood City Today

Protestors plan to hand branch managers of three large Redwood City banks 'bills' asking them to pay 'their fair share of America's taxes' Tuesday afternoon.

A group called the Mid Peninsula American Dream Council (MPADC) plans to rally in Redwood City late Tuesday afternoon, to send the message that they believe millionaires and large corporations should be paying a larger portion of America's taxes.

"We protest the outrageous budget proposal just passed by the GOP members of Congress, which slashes Medicare, Social Security and other vital programs for the '99 percent' while giving $3 trillion of tax benefits to corporations and the wealthy," said MPADC spokesperson Gary Graham. "We are disgusted by a tax system rigged to benefit the wealthiest 1 percent of our nation at the expense of the 99 percent."

In order to get this message across, members of the group plan to chant, hold signs, and personally hand the branch members of three large Redwood City banks "giant written bills demanding they pay their fair share of the nation's taxes," Graham said.

Graham said any members of the community who wish to join the group in protest are welcome to do so.

Graham said the Mid Peninsula American Dream Council is part of a larger, nationwide council with five million members.

"We work in coordination with the national council network on campaigns to push for the progressive change that our country needs, and for issues that are important to our five million members," Graham explained. "We maintain a strong, independent voice to keep Congress and the President honest when lobbyists and corporations stand in the way of progress."

Tuesday's protest will take place at 1500 Woodside Road from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
