Redwood City Rotary Club Recognized by Congresswoman

After reading about the $20,000 check the Rotary Club donated to the City Parks and Recreation Department recently on Patch, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo contacted the local club.

As you may have read on Patch last week, the Redwood City Rotary Club recently wrapped up the first season of its new Tuesday night farmers market.

The new farmers market was a big success - so, in thanks for the helpful partnership of the City's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, the Rotary Club presented the department with a check for $20,000 from the proceeds of the market at last week's City Council meeting.

We documented it all in an article and photo on Patch - and, one very important person was reading.

After reading about the partnership between the department and the Rotary Club and how it helped the farmers market become a success in the community that helped raise money for the City's valuable programs, U.S. Congresswoman Anna Eshoo sent a letter to Lilia Ledezma, the Rotary Club's president, from her offices in Washington, D.C.

"I recently read about the Redwood City Rotary Club's generous contribution to the Redwood City Parks and Recreation Department online in the Redwood City-Woodside Patch," Rep. Eshoo's letter read. "What a fitting way to use the proceeds and celebrate the success of the Rotary's first farmers market. The funds will surely assist the Parks and Recreation Department to continue their wonderful work for the entire community."

"Collaborations and partnerships are vital to every community, and I applaud the partnership between the Rotary Club and the Parks and Recreation Department," the letter continued.

See a copy of the letter in the photos section of this article.

This is a much more effective means for dealing with the issue. Legislation is not.

I agree, the public has the right to know what they are eating. It is absurd to be purchasing foodRead More that contains GMOs and not be able to know it is in the food.... why the secret if it is so safe??? I will not shop at any food stores that refuse to provide the public with information on what I am eating or serving to the people I care about. Trader Joes and Whole Foods have my loyalty for having the courage to stand up against the big guys and set an example by doing what is right for the consumer and not folding to pressure from Monsanto, Dupont and the other corporate giants that could care less about our safety and only care about how much money they can rake in.
