Compost Your Christmas Tree

Recology San Mateo County will pick up your Christmas tree for free until Jan. 31.

There's good news for those dreading the inevitable question, "how are we going to get rid of this big ol' Christmas tree?"

Recology San Mateo County will collect holiday trees to be composted through Jan. 31, on your regular collection day.

There is no garbage service on Jan. 1 for New Year's Day. See our article, "What's My Trash/Recycling Pick-Up Schedule Over the Holidays?" for other important dates.

Please remove all decorations and tree stands (flocked trees are accepted) before placing the tree next to your green Compost Cart. Trees may be up to 8 feet in length. If your tree is longer than 8 feet, please cut the tree before placing the pieces next to your Compost Cart.

After January 31st, please cut the tree to fit inside the Compost Cart.

Apartment managers and owners and commercial customers are asked to call to arrange for collection of trees. Trees can be collected in piles or in a dropbox for no additional charge.

For more information, please call a customer service representative at 650-595-3900.
