New Charter School Shopping for Location

A new charter school joining the Redwood City School District as of next fall reports that location-shopping has been going well for its founders.

Connect Community Charter School (CCCS), for which the charter was approved by the Redwood City K-8 school district recently, plans to open at the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

Though the school's classrooms will initially be located on existing campuses, founders say they plan to eventually have their own campus.

The CCCS team sent out an update to members of its mailing list at the end of last week, reporting about founders' location-shopping trips.

"This week we had a terrific visit to school sites under consideration for Connect," the update read. "As you know, we’ve asked to be located on the east side of Redwood City so that we can be more accessible for families who live there."

The update mentioned specific sites the school is considering borrowing classrooms from until the school has its own campus.

"We toured Taft and Fair Oaks - the schools where classrooms are most likely to be available for us - and were thrilled to see two spotlessly well-maintained campuses, either of which would be a great home for our new school."

The school's founders praised how accomodating the Redwood City School District has been, and say it is now a matter of waiting to see which classrooms the district can lend to CCCS.

"We’ll see which is the better fit once the fabulous district facilities team has a chance to do its full inventory, but there’s nothing like standing in a classroom to make Connect seem like a reality. We can’t wait!"

Moving forward, the founders are asking parents who are very interested in having their children attend to consider how they might be able to volunteer and help the school get on its feet.

"Here’s how you can help us: Think about how you are able to volunteer some time to make Connect a reality for our community," the letter read. "For example, we’ll be doing lots and lots of outreach to publicize the school. Want to knock on some doors with us? Staff an informational table? Especially if you have Spanish language skills, we want to hear from you!"

The founders ask parents interested in volunteering to fill out this form on the school's website to let them know how ways you may be able to help.

CCCS is already readying itself for enrollment, as parents have been filling out and turning in "Intent to Enroll" forms over the past couple of months to help give founders an idea of how many students they might expect to enroll for the fall of 2013.
