Red Cross Closes Shelter for Redwood City Fire Victims

Survivors of the fire at Hallmark House Apartments have a new option.

The Red Cross announced that it will close the shelter at the National Guard Armory in Redwood City at noon on Friday.

The service center at The Armory, located at 939 Valota Road, closed on Thursday at 6 p.m. It is relocating to the North Fair Oaks Community Center, located at 2600 Middlefield Road in Redwood City. That center opens on Monday July 15.  It will be open from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. and again from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The goal is to provide long-term recovery plans while addressing critical needs, according to Pooja Trivedi, Spokesperson for the Red Cross Bay Area Chapter.

"Red Cross volunteers will work with the San Mateo County Human Services Agency, Public Health Agency, Behavioral and Mental Health, and Housing Authority Agency as well as other partners including The Salvation Army, Project Access, and Tzu Chi to assist residents through the long-term recovery process." Trivedi said.  

People who want to help can donate time, money or clothing. People who want to volunteer can call the Red Cross at 1-888-4-Help-Bay. Clothing can be donated at the Salvation Army, located at 660 Veterans Blvd. Call (650) 368-4643 for more information about that.
