Watch: Belmont Boy Snags Piece of Giants History

Central Elementary students Rylan Kelley and Stone Savage were sitting in the perfect spot on Sunday--center field bleachers--when a home run ball came their way.

Michelle and Steve Kelley were catching glimpses on TV of Sunday's final Giants game against the Padres while hosting a birthday party for their 11-year-old son Spencer. The Kelley's younger son, Rylan, was at the Giants game with his buddy Stone Savage and Stone's mom, Jill Daniel.

"Have you spotted them?" Michelle asked her husband, knowing that the boys and Jill were sitting in the front row of the center field bleachers at AT&T Park.

"Unless someone hits a home run, we won't see them," answered Steve.

Next batter: Francisco Peguero. Whack. Into the center field bleachers.

"We watched the ball sail out to the bleachers," said Michelle.

"And we said, 'that really was Rylan and he has the ball in his hand!'"

As Rylan tells it, he knew it was a the game-tying home run when he heard it come off the bat. And he was ready with his glove.

As is tradition with any player's first homer, a Giants staff member requests the ball back from the fan in exchange for something else. In this case, Rylan and Stone asked for a bat and a ball.

The boys, both students at Central Elementary School in Belmont, were ushered, along with Stone's mom, Jill, to the Giants clubhouse after the game where the boys were introduced to Peguero and received their signed bat and ball in exchange for the outfielder's first-ever big league home run ball.

We also had our picture taken with (Angel) Pagan," said Stone.

And just for the record, in addition to all the excitement of catching a home run ball and meeting the players, the boys recounted every single thing they ate at the park:

"We had garlic fries, and a hot dog with ranch, and Sour Patch and kettle korn, and frozen lemonade," they said in unison.

Rylan and Stone themselves are ballplayers. As teammates on the Belmont Blasters Blue 9U team, they had a winning season that included two tournament championships.

Rylan's brother, Spencer, the birthday boy, also plays for the Blasters, on the U11 Blue team. At school on Monday, Spencer, a fifth grader, was just as excited to share in the home run experience as his little brother.

So what's in store for the fall for these young Giants fans?

"We play on the same soccer team," said Rylan.
"The Orange Dominators," chimed in Stone.

"Our colors are orange and black," they both added.

Naturally.
