The redesign was completed in 2006 as part of the city's redevelopment funds. City councilmembers have called Courthouse Square "the outdoor living room of Redwood City."

Annual events like the Hometown Holidays, the Pet Parade as well as the summer Movie Series and Concerts on the Square take place here.

Alcohol is not allowed in any park, except for during City-sponsored, culturally-related events such as the Concert in the Parks Series. Park availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, except for select picnic areas that can be reserved in advance.
