Supervisors are elected to staggered four-year terms with a maximum of three terms in office. They appoint the county manager, who carries out the board's policies and goals and oversees the running of county government.</p> <p>In addition to the supervisors, voters elect six other San Mateo County officials. They are the assessor/county clerk/recorder, district attorney/public administrator, controller, coroner, sheriff and treasurer/tax collector.</p>
