There are 4 other routes that service Redwood City but do not stop at Redwood City Caltrain.
The KX (black) route is considered an express route from Palo Alto Caltrain to San Francisco Mission Street. However, it is also provides local service on most of it's route.
Buses can be boarded at clearly marked points along the routes. At a minimum these boarding points will include a SamTrans sign that lists bus routes for this location. Some locations have a SamTrans bench and others have one or multiple bus shelters. At locations with multiple bus shelters (such as Sequoia Station) make sure that you locate the one with your desired route in the correct direction. If is a bus is late or you do not have a schedule you can call (1-800- 660-4287) to get "live" information on a bus ETA from 7am - 7pm M-F and 8am - 5pm weekends and holidays.
All buses are clearly marked above the front windshield with the route number, however, if you are ever in doubt when boarding a bus make sure you ask the driver before paying.
There are multiple ways to pay for your bus fare including cash, tokens, monthly bus pass and Clipper Card. There are discounts for Youth, Seniors, Disabled and Medicare cardholders. Please be aware that if you are paying cash that you need to have exact change (which is currently two dollars for Adults). The machine will accept larger bills but neither the machine or the driver will provide change.
There are multiple different types of bus passes offered including Local, Local/SF and EXP (KX route). With the Local/SF and the EXP you can also purchase the Muni sticker (for local SF rides on Muni).
If you travel on Caltrain and also use SamTrans and/or VTA please be aware that a two zone (or higher) monthly train pass is accepted on SamTrans and VTA.
Clipper Card just started being accepted on SamTrans in December 2010. The biggest advantages of using the Clipper Card is that it reduces the number of cards you need for multi-agency travel, you can manage it online and if lost you can replace it.
Bicycles are also accepted on SamTrans buses (please refer to the pictures to see how bikes are loaded on the front of the bus). You need to load your bike on the front of the bus before boarding. Also make sure to remind the driver that you will be unloading your bike before disembarking the bus.
