Roosevelt Elementary School

Roosevelt Elementary School is a kindergarten through sixth grade school that strives to "Show Respect, Make A GoodMore Decision and Solve Problems." After a two-year pilot program, Roosevelt has implemented the Project Based Learning (PBL) program for the 2010-2011 school year school wide, which focuses on science and social studies.  Currently an expansion committee is seeking board approval to expand Roosevelt's PBL program to 8th grade beginning with the addition of 6th grade in the 2011/2012 school year followed by the addition of 7th and 8th grade over the next two consecutive years.</p> <p>Roosevelt is very proud of their award winning teachers.  Roosevelt's Kindergarten team won the prestigious Kent Award for their Kindergarten literacy program.  In 2011, second grade teacher Sigrid McCarthy was awarded San Mateo County's Dorothy Boyajian Honored Teacher Award which honors teachers who reflect the teaching role of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is awarded to a teacher  who inspires students in the areas of justice, understanding, civic engagement and diversity awareness and  who helps to foster a commitment to community building.</p> <p>Students can check out resources from the award-winning library and computer lab to keep pace with the increasingly tech-savvy world. The library's Accelerated Reader program assesses students' comprehension level by quizzing students on the books they read. Also beginning in the 2011/2012 school year, students in grades K through 5 will have the opportunity to use JiJi Math, after the school was awarded a grant to utilize the MIND Institute's software. Students will learn mathematical concepts through spatial and temporal reasoning.</p>

Hawes Elementary School

Hawes offers an interdisciplinary program that focuses on literary development as well as science concepts. TechnologyMore plays a large role in the curriculum with regular use of the Hawes Computer Lab complete with multimedia computers like iMacs and eMacs. The LIFESKILLS curriculum emphasizes cross-cultural awareness, interactions and understanding amongst students. As a year-round school, Hawes students are constantly learning. 
Roosevelt Child Development Center

In addition to standard K-8 education, the Redwood City School District provides preschool and child careMore services to promote child development in preparation for the next years of education. Full-time and part-time programs are available to children plus after-school care for Kindergarten and first graders. The program serves children in classrooms on seven public school campuses. A year-round system allows parents to drop their children off even during the summer. </p> <p>Many staff members are bilingual and all children receive lunch and snacks through the USDA Child Care Food Program.</p>

The Creative Learning Loft

The Creative Learning Loft provides drop-in learning and activities for children. Each loft has a theme for creativeMore play, such as the "construction site," where kids focus on building with blocks and legos. Parents are welcome to join in the fun. The space can be rented out for birthday jubilees as well.
Redwood City Schaberg Library

One of four libraries in Redwood City, the Schaberg Library is smaller than the others, but still hosts several events.More "Paws for Tales" and story times are regularly offered. Located right next to Roosevelt School, it offers a wide selection for children. The Library Board consists of five members, appointed by the City Council for terms of three years each.
