My experience in industry is a little different. I have seen forced ranking of everyone in theRead More company. Those who ranked low are cut. This way, the best and brightest.

At least the governor gave billions, from this year's state surplus, to the teacher's union pensionRead More fund. No wonder teachers support a union that will not distinguish between good and bad teaching. Besides the taxpayer sustaining the cost of the "same old same old" public education system there is the added cost of a court to make the distinction. Bummer the teacher's union is not required to reimburse the tax payer for this two year legal battle. Now, it is going to cost the tax payer more for the appeal(s).

Having an effective and objective way to "grade" teachers is a complex issue, but I doRead More believe that the current system is not working. I have seen personally how its basically impossible to fire a teacher who is grossly ineffective - having such feedback from parents and students year after year after year. Any situation that gives automatic tenure and is unable to hold employees accountable is going to be problematic.

I think its wonderful that Mark Zuckenberg donated to our schools, but I predict it will never reachRead More our classrooms. The district will spend it on more "coaches" and specialists, more teacher training programs and technology. Meanwhile we will still have a high percentage of combo classes, jammed with 31 -32, English language learners, poverty, high needs students.

Hope the RCSD is watched like a hawk. Commenter Huff is absolutely correct in her assessment. HowRead More many "donated" Ping golf club SETS have disappeared from Kennedy Middle? What happened to the sewing machines from storage areas? RCSD needs to be absorbed into a larger district so the children get the full benefits from donors.

We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! Hopefully Calif will soon follow Michigan and the Supreme Court's ruling to ban racist admissionsRead More and go for the best and brightest. Enough of MD's from "special programs" at Stanford who are spoonfed the boards in tiny pieces and got in with D's in chemistry and 20% MCATs. One now works at a clinic in Roatan for 2 whole hours before she goes snorkeling and posting on Facebook.

I would urge parents to consider private schools for their beloved children. Many have financialRead More aid/scholarships. Or, visit your local RCSD school but be very observant of where you are taken or what you see at recess/lunch. Protect your children---

I'm curious as to how the college bound rates at all three schools can be higher than the graduationRead More rates?
