New Bar & Grill Opens in Downtown Redwood City

Restaurateurs Jose and Dunia Rodriguez relocated Waterfront Restaurant from Pete’s Harbor to downtown Redwood City and rebranded it as Sidetrax Bar & Grill.

Their new restaurant is a casual, sit-down dining establishment with dishes that are all less than $20. 

Jose Rodriguez, Sidetrax Bar & Grill co owner, said he and his wife were forced to find a new space, after they were evicted from their old location. Waterfront Restaurant had been in Pete’s Harbor for more than a decade.

The owner of Pete’s Harbor, Paula Ucelli, sold the property in 2012 to a developer who plans to put a commercial marina on the land.  All of the businesses and homeowners on the property were given eviction notices and told to move out by January 15, 2013. 

“We decided to move right away, to hopefully gain more time and be able to re-open quicker," Jose said.  The bilingual wife and husband team found a space on Broadway and decided to set up shop there. 

While the new location can only hold about half as many people as the old 200-seat location, they have already started booking the outdoor seating area for parties of 40. 

The inside area can seat about 60 including the seats at the bar, which is fully stocked.  

Some of the notable items on the menu include the Pork Wrap Immersion, which is butterflied pork chops, stuffed with pears, mustard, and provolone, wrapped in bacon and served in a port reduction fig sauce.  

Another is the Grilled Salmon, served over couscous and drizzled with a berry reduction sauce.  The menu is varied and contains options for carnivores, vegans, and vegetarians. 

The cocktail menu contains treats such as the Locomotive Lemonade, a Maker's Mark drink with lemon juice, and honey syrup. The name was inspired by the new restaurant's close proximity to the Caltrain station. It is within walking distance. 

Sidetrax Bar & Grill is located at 2616 Broadway in Redwood City, California.  The restaurant also caters events.
