Redwood City Prepares for Fourth of July

The Independence Day festivities in Redwood City, California will include a parade and a fireworks show.

The City of Redwood City will be the heart of multiple Fourth of July festivities in 2013, including a parade, a pancake breakfast, and a fireworks show.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the center of downtown to watch the parade that will start at the corner of Marshall and Winslow, and end at the corner of Alden and Arguello.  The Peninsula Celebration Association is hosting the event for the 75th year in partnership with the downtown businesses.

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at Fire Station 9.  Firefighters will be flipping flapjacks from 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at 755 Marshall Street.

Simultaneously a car show will be shifting into high gear in the 2600 block of Broadway.

The Woodside Terrace Kiwanis Club will bring fun activities to the scene with the annual 4th of July carnival that will be held in the parking lot at Veterans Blvd. and Winslow Street.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and will last as long as it takes to travel around the parade route.  This year’s parade will feature gymnasts, dancers, BMX bicycle riders,  kung fu fighters, folklorico and square dancers.

The festivities end with multiple bangs at the Port of Redwood City at 9:30 p.m., where you can watch fireworks explode in the sky over the Peninsula.  Organizers recommend arriving early to find a space from which to watch the show, given the popularity of waterfront spots in years past.

The Port of Redwood City will provide a public viewing area along the water off Seaport Court.  When the parking spaces are full, organizers will close the street to cars.  Organizers say this could happen as early as 7:30 p.m.

No personal alcohol or fireworks are allowed. The events are open to the public.
