The Nerd New Year closed down Broadway Street for a day of nerdiness, fun and charity.
Too many nerdy words in that headline? Don’t worry, there are also cool shark tanks, live bands, raffle prizes for charity and ultimately, a 14-foot clock tower to countdown to 11:11 p.m. at .
At the old Pizza & Pipes, dozens of hackers were building robots that could travel mazes and other nifty tricks.
When the hack-a-thon opened, the first 111 slots filled up immediately and now there is a wait list of about 200 people.

“We’re just so happy to see so many girls here too,” said Jonathan Nelson, founder of Hackers and Founders, a 4,500 member group of start-up tech geeks.
Over on Broadway near the Caltrain station, there are shark tanks from the of the tunes from several live bands.
