Where/When: , 2200 Broadway St., Redwood City. This Friday, July 8, 5-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: For this week’s Art on the Square, the art is all wearable. More than 20 local jewelers will be showing off their creations for the first-ever Jewelry on the Square event this Friday. As always, there will be delicious food vendors, and live bands will supply the entertainment. As an added bonus, four $25 gift certificate to spend on jewelry will be awarded to lucky attendees during the band’s intermission!

Pricing: Free admission, food and jewelry will be available for purchase.

 

Where/When: , 520 Woodside Road, Redwood City. This Friday to Sunday, July 8-10, during Petco business hours.

Why Go: Score yourself some free food for your cat, and do a good deed at the same time! This Friday through Sunday is the “Get One, Give One” event at several Petcos, including the Redwood City location. Royal Canin is giving away two free cans of cat food to anyone who would like them in the store, and for every two they give away to customers, they will also donate two to the Petco Foundation, to go to cats in shelters. Score something free, and benefit stray cats at the same time—sounds like a win-win!

THE RETURN OF THE KIWANIS FARMER’S MARKET

Where/When: 850 Winslow St., downtown Redwood City. Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon, beginning this Saturday the 9th.

Why Go: The Farmer’s Market returns to downtown Redwood City this weekend! If you’re thinking a nice, relaxing stroll with a little shopping thrown in sounds good after a lively fourth of July last weekend, then the Kiwanis Farmer’s Market may be just the thing for you. And, there’s no need to leave the trusty family dog at home for this one—the Kiwanis Farmer’s Market is one of the only of its kind that is friendly toward man’s best friend. Many regulars say, parking is easy as well. What more could you ask for in a farmer’s market?

Pricing: Free admission. Note that most vendors accept only cash.

 

FREE PUBLIC PERFORMANCE BY OPERA SAN JOSE

Where/When: , 2200 Broadway St., Redwood City. This Sunday, July 10 at 6 p.m.

Why Go: Add a little culture and sophistication to your weekend with the second installment of Redwood City’s Classical Series. The beautiful music of Opera San Jose will fill Courthouse Square this Sunday during this rare public performance. The concert will highlight some of the greatest arias and ensembles in opera repertoire from Mozart to Puccini, and include a preview of the company’s 2011-12 season, which will feature Mozart’s Idomeneo, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Poulenc’s La voix humaine, Verdi’s La traviata, and Gounod’s Faust.

Pricing: Free!

 

Where/When: 4 King St., Redwood City. This Saturday, July 9, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Score yourself some treasure while benefiting a great cause at the same time this Saturday at the Peninsula Hill’s Women’s Club’s multi-family garage sale to benefit disaster relief. Several families have donated gently-used items, and if you like what you see, you can take it home for a reasonable price, and all the proceeds will be donated to various disaster relief funds.
