Chipotle to Donate Proceeds to California Farmers, Veterans Next Week

For every side of guacamole sold at one of their stores, the Redwood City Chipotle and others will donate $1 to the Farmer-Veteran Coalition.

Mmmm, guacamole. Great with chips, and great on burritos.

This next week, your love of guacamole could help benefit farmers and veterans across California, thanks to Chipotle Mexican Grills.

The popular burrito chain - which has locations on  and in the Bridgepointe Shopping Center - is running a charitable promotion starting today, Sunday, Aug. 5 to Sunday, Aug. 12.

During that week, for every side of guacamole sold in one of their California stores, Chipotle will donate $1 to the Farmer-Veteran Coalition, up to $50,000.

The Coalition aims to pair veterans and farmers together to support each other, by farmers helping to feed veterans, and veterans helping others to support eating locally-grown food.

Chipotle clocks in as one of the largest buyers of avocados statewide, using 4 percent of California’s annual avocado harvest, and going through some 97,000 pounds of the nutrient-rich fruit per day. Each restaurant makes its own guacamole from scratch, often several times a day, using between 48-84 avocados per batch, depending on the size of the avocado.

“Customers have always liked our guacamole, and at the volume we serve, we wouldn’t be able to keep up with demand without the farmers in California,” said Chris Arnold, Chipotle’s director of communications. “Chipotle’s locally-sourced program, and its continued growth, is contingent on improving the health of our farming industry and support for small, local farms.”
