City Hosting Party in Courthouse Square

The event is for families who want to create safe neighborhoods.

The City of Redwood City is hosting a National Night Out event in August in the downtown Courthouse Square.

The event will feature music, games, and places where you can obtain information about ways to make your neighborhood safer.

Parents can fingerprint their children for free and create a record that could be useful in the event of an emergency situation. Concerned citizens can learn how to start a neighborhood watch and collect information about what to do in the event if a natural disaster.

Organizers encourage people to bring their cameras to have their photos taken with McGruff the crime-fighting dog. Also on display that night, will be a police boat, a command vehicle, and a fire engine.

Last but certainly not least the event will have music, games, and giveaways.

The Redwood City Police Department and Target are co-hosting this local version of a national event that engages about 37 million people annually throughout the U.S.  The goal of the event is to strengthen neighborhood spirit and heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, according to a statement from Sheri Costa-Batis, communications manager for the City of Redwood City.

The event starts at 6 p.m. on August 6 and concludes at 8 p.m. in the city’s Courthouse Square, which is located at 2200 Broadway St.

This may be a good time to test Redwood City’s new parking spot locater app.
