The students and staff of Roosevelt School in Redwood City got a brush with fame Wednesday when San Jose Earthquakes star soccer player Shea Salinas stopped by for a meet-and-greet and presentation.
Salinas talked with kids about his career journey, and gave advice on how they can go ahead and be successful in life too. He stressed the importance of healthy eating, getting plenty of exercise, and going to college if one wants a career in sports like his.
"He gave a really great talk," said Hilary Paulson, Redwood City School District trustee. "I especially like how he told them, if they want to be professional soccer players, they need to go to college, because that's where all the scouts are."
After his presentation, Salinas posed for pictures with classes and school staff, and passed out plenty of high-fives.
"Q," the Earthquakes' mascot, also came along on the visit and had fun with the kids on the field.
