New Charter School to Hold Information Nights

The brand-new Connect Community Charter School will hold a series of three information nights for interested families, including information about applying for enrollment.

Connect Community Charter School (CCCS), a brand-new K-8 school that recently joined the Redwood City School District (RCSD), is prepping for its first enrollment for the start of the 2013-14 school year.

The school's founders are already shopping for locations in classrooms within RCSD K-8 schools. They are looking toward campuses in the east side of Redwood City, such as Taft and Fair Oaks.

Therefore, the founders will be holding a series of three information nights for families interested in learning more about the school's plans and philosophy, as well as how and when they can apply their children for enrollment, should they choose to do so.

"We hope you’ll join us for answers to all your questions about Connect," said an e-mail update from the school last week. "Bring a friend or neighbor, and we'll have something fun to keep your children busy too."

Information will be available in both Spanish and English.

The following three events have been scheduled:

  • Nov. 29, 2012, 7-9 p.m. at the Downtown Main Library
  • Jan. 9, 2013, 7-9 p.m. at the PAL building on the campus of Taft Elementary School
  • Jan. 29, 2013, 3-5 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club

Enrollment forms for CCCS will be available Jan. 2, 2013 and due Feb. 28, 2013.

If the school gets more applicants than it has spots for, a lottery will be held in the first week of March, with applicants being notified by the following week.

CCCS' next board meeting, open to the public, will be held this Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 pm. at the Downtown Main Library, 1044 Middlefield Road.

Jennifer: I really enjoyed working with you on the story about the Barnes family and Ballet AmericaRead More back in December. Also liked "following you around town" on the other stories you covered. There will be lots of great people and exciting news back east -- not to worry. Best of luck.

So why do you keep voting for bigger Government? Seems the consumers have solved the problemRead More without "It's" help.

This is a much more effective means for dealing with the issue. Legislation is not.

I agree, the public has the right to know what they are eating. It is absurd to be purchasing foodRead More that contains GMOs and not be able to know it is in the food.... why the secret if it is so safe??? I will not shop at any food stores that refuse to provide the public with information on what I am eating or serving to the people I care about. Trader Joes and Whole Foods have my loyalty for having the courage to stand up against the big guys and set an example by doing what is right for the consumer and not folding to pressure from Monsanto, Dupont and the other corporate giants that could care less about our safety and only care about how much money they can rake in.
