SBSA Names New Senior Engineer

Bruce W. Burnworth has been retained to work at SBSA as Senior Engineer and Force Main Conveyance System Program Manager.

            “For SBSA, I will focus on the type of work I did putting together a $93 million regional sewer project in Placer County while working for the City of Lincoln and on the Central Coast Water Authority’s $200 million regional water project to bring state water into San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties,” Burnworth said. “I enjoy working together with multiple service and regulatory agencies to plan, design and build regional conveyance system projects that benefit many communities.”

            Burnworth comes to SBSA with more than 35 years of experience, starting with the Santa Barbara County from 1977 to 1986 to his most recent venture – president of his own company, MPF Consulting.

            His MPF Consulting Inc. vision was “Moving Projects Forward . . . Together.” He explained, “Projects and programs that serve the public’s needs were my focus. As president of MPF Consulting I continued to assist public agencies with high priority programs and projects that typically included extensive public involvement. Projects included San Jose Creek Flood Control and Fish Passage and development of a maintenance program for Castaic Lake Water Agency pipelines.”

            His other positions have been with the City of Santa Barbara, Central Coast Water Authority and Penfield & Smith Engineers where he continued to work on projects for Santa Barbara, and Central Coast Water Authority.

            When with Santa Barbara as the City Engineer he was “dedicated to implement innovative and environmentally sensitive projects in accordance with policies established by elected officials. Then I was honored to be selected to manage design and construction of the extension of the State Water project into Santa Barbara County. This project includes the Central Coast Water Authority’s  43-mgd water treatment plant and 70 miles of 30 inch to 42 inch diameter pipe with appurtenances ($200 million project costs),” Burnworth recalled.

            He earned a B.S. in transportation engineering (civil engineer) from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo as Phi Kappa Pi (highest honor society) and Tau Beta Pi (engineering honor society). He is past president of a local chapter of the American Public Works Association and has delivered professional presentations at the Convention of American Society of Civil Engineers and Convention of American Water Works Association (twice). He was honored as “Engineer of the Year 1998” by 20 professional engineering associations for his work on the Central Coast Water Authority project.

                        Burnworth walks to work from a house he shares in Redwood Shores and spends many weekends making improvements at a family ranch in Gold Run (Sierra Foothills).He has three adult children – two civil engineers (San Francisco and San Luis Obispo) and a transportation planner (Berkeley). Away from work, he enjoys a granddaughter, snowboarding, hiking and operating a large excavator at Gold Run Ranch.
