Pipeline Update for Redwood City

Maple Street/Docktown Update

Construction on Maple Street is escalating.  Today the contractor is pounding support beams in for the shoring system, which will generate noise and vibration.  The next phase of the work will be the actual excavation on the first of three phases on Maple Street.  As a result dump trucks will be loading and transporting soil away from the excavation and excavators will be moving back and forth on the street while they are digging down. This will be followed by pipe installation.  This work includes the new San Mateo County Jail’s 20-inch gravity sewer in the same trench.   This first 300-foot segment will take three to four months. Most truck traffic will be from about 8 am to 4 pm though work will still be occurring there from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Following this first stretch, there will be two more 300-foot segments following this same procedure moving away from Highway 101.

Bair Island/Bair Island Road Update

The work on Bair Island is now inserting the HDPE pipe into the casing. The first segment is complete from Jacking Shaft #2 (located on the property owned by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife near the new pedestrian bridge) to Receiving Shaft #2 on the Island. Now the contractor is installing the pipe from Jacking Shaft #2 to Receiving Shaft #1 located at the east end of the USFWS parking lot off of Bair Island Road.  The duration of this work will be to March 31. This will include filling up this jacking shaft hole to the existing ground surface. There will be limited noise for this operation, a crane operating intermittently and a loader picking up pipe and delivering it to the shaft.
