Pipeline project outlook from now to Christmas

This is SBSA’s pipeline project outlook from now to Christmas – just five weeks away.  There may be slight modifications in details or timelines on the highlights below because construction can be unpredictable at times.  We will update you further if there are significant changes or issues arise, but please regard this update as our best information over what we all traditionally consider the holiday season.  As always, if you have a question or a concern, start with an email or call to Duane Sandul (duanesandul@gmail.com, 650-585-2181) and he will direct it to the appropriate person for a response.

Maple Street/Docktown area:

  • Starting Thursday (November 21) and lasting for up to seven work days, there will be slight traffic control modifications right in front of the Shelter Network and Work Furlough facilities. This is to enable connection of new piping from one side of the road to the other.  The signage will be clear, but please advise persons who travel in this section of Maple Street about the slight traffic control changes that will be different from what exists.  All trenches will be covered after hours and the area kept safe at all times.
  • The second phase of traffic modifications on Maple Street starting at the area next to the FERMA (Recycler) property down to the end of Maple Street (Shelter Network/Work Furlough) will start during the second or third week of December and be in place for four to six months.  The modification will accommodate the placement of the new utilities.  The primary change will be a slight relocation of the pedestrian walkway.  This will be fully signed.  As the project proceeds, portions of the roadway will become more accessible in segments.
  • Excavation at Jacking Shaft I – the entry to Docktown – will start this week and last through December.  This requires heavy equipment and trucks but this phase will be less noisy than the sheet pile driving that was scheduled for completion today or tomorrow at the same site.  There will be more truck traffic as the trucks remove the excavated soil.

Bair Island Road area:

  • Microtunneling from Jacking Shaft 2 (the parking lot of the US Fish and Wildlife Service) to Receiving Shaft 1 (at the far end of that property at the launch of Redwood Creek) starts today, November 20, and is expected to be completed near Christmas.

Holiday Schedule:

  • The pipeline project will not work Thanksgiving Day or the following Friday, November 28 and 29.
  • The Christmas week schedule is not confirmed just yet but we will provide an update as soon as we confirm this with the contractor.
