My wife and I found a new fun way to spend an evening in Redwood City. Last month we went to a roller derby match at the Redwood City Roller Rink. We had a great time even though we weren't always sure how the game was played.
Hint -- read the brochure they give out at the door, it has a great summary. We didn't realize this until we got home.
The fun is in the crowd cheering and supporting their team and all the women athletes come to have fun in their costumes and really go at it on the floor when the whistle sounds. The matches are part of the Peninsula Roller Girl association. http://peninsularollergirls.com/
Peninsula Roller Girls was founded by a group of skaters in December 2010. Most of our members live and/or work on the San Francisco Peninsula. PRG is dedicated to the promotion of female empowerment, physical fitness, fun and community engagement.
The next event is on June 14 -- a championship bout. We aren't going to miss it.
