Warren Slocum Announces Candidacy

Redwood City resident becomes eighth to run for the District 4 Seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.

Warren Slocum upped the ante on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors election Monday, becoming the eighth candidate to run for the District 4 seat.

Slocum, San Mateo County’s former Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk Recorder, differentiated himself from other campaigners in his candidacy announcement by positioning himself as the environmental candidate who would develop the economic climate through cultivation of clean enterprises in the county.

“We need to bring the spirit that made Silicon Valley the world’s innovation leader to county government," Slocum said, noting the county faces very expensive problems such as health care and jail realignment that “require creative thinking, political clout, and bold leadership.”

“We can’t afford to move slowly; we need to recapture that can-do spirit, pursue common sense solutions and act,” he said.

The San Mateo County Elections Office candidate roster shows three people from  , two from East Palo Alto, and now three from   are running for the seat that Rose Jacobs Gibson will vacate this year.

Jacobs Gibson sits on the District 4 seat, which encompasses Menlo Park, East Palo Alto, Redwood City and unincorporated portions of San Mateo County in between these towns. She has represented the interests of these communities since she was appointed to San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in 1999. She will pass the responsibility of prioritizing the needs of about 150,000 people, according to the latest census data, to the person who is elected in three months.

Slocum said a major difference between him and the other candidates is his "countywide leadership" and "county specific experience."

“I have deep ties in the community from years of service," Slocum said. "I will use this network to pursue public private partnerships to improve the quality of life in this beautiful area we call ‘home.’ My familiarity with the people and processes in place in county government means that I can be effective from day one."

The election will be held June 5.
