VIDEO: Redwood City Kids Fight Childhood Obesity

School's out and summer's here, but that doesn't mean the district's kids will stop all physical activity.

When summer comes around, it's easy for kids to stray from their typical school day routine and not get their three-square meals and physical exercise. Indoor computer and video games are often enticing, yet stationary, activities.

The Children's Power Play! campaign brought students from Hoover Community School and Garfield School to the Hoover campus Monday afternoon to play fun activities  as well as learn about nutritious and healthier food options.

So the California Department of Public Health has partnered with and the to remind kids to eat their fruits and vegetables and play for 60 minutes a day.

Research shows that students are twice as likely to gain weight during the summer because of the absence of a routine, according to campaign coordinator Tuline Baykal.

The in Redwood City also demonstrated a fun way to stay active: martial arts.
