Tuesday Is the Last Day to Mail In Your Supervisors' Ballot; Special Voting Centers Open Today

Six candidates vie for one seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.

This is a special election season. You can only vote by mail. To arm you with information to make the most informed decision, Redwood City Patch has featured profiles of all six candidates.

But voters who prefer to make their choice in person can visit special voting centers that opened their doors today.

This week only, Redwood City voters can vote at the Redwood City Elections office located on the First Floor of 555 County Government Center. It's open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday through May 3 and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters can cast their ballots at Elections Offices in San Mateo and Redwood City up until the day of the election, May 3. And they can drop their mail-in ballots off at any city hall in the county. Or they can use the regular U.S. mail.

Other centers include those in San Mateo, Millbrae, Daly City and Half Moon Bay. Visit the San Mateo County Elections Office website for a full list of voting center locations.

Who is running?

Why is this election special?

Last November, voters selected Mark Church as San Mateo County Elections Officer, vacating a position on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors for the District One spot.  This month, San Mateo County residents decide who will fill his role. Voters who are “not currently judged by a court to be mentally incompetent,” among other requirements, can only vote by mail, according to the California Secretary of State’s website.

How to vote by mail

The County Elections office needs to get your printed out ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day. But that doesn’t need to happen in person; in this election you can only vote by mail. The last day to get a vote-by-mail ballot is April 26, 2011.  (This is a process that you can do on a permanent basis, if making it to the polls isn’t an option.)  The elections office address is 40 Tower Road
San Mateo, CA 94402.
