SamTrans To Get First Energy Efficient Bus Fleet

$5 million federal grant makes it all possible.

 

The San Mateo County Transit District will purchase its first fleet of energy efficient buses with a $4.9 million grant from the Federal Transit Authority.

Rep. Anna Eshoo said the new hybrid buses will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and keep operating costs down, as well as help grow the local economy.

The bus system in San Mateo County, known as SamTrans, will remain a viable transportation option thanks to the energy efficient replacement buses, made possible by the Federal Transit Authority 's Bus and Bus Facilities Initiative.

SamTrans estimates that the project will create and maintain manufacturing jobs.

The SamTrans project is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission's 2035 Regional Transportation Program, which specifies how some $218 billion in anticipated federal, state and local transportation funds will be spent across the San Francisco Bay Area over a 25-year period, ending in 2035.
