It was a special treat to have the marvelous Raging Grannies at our rally yesterday. Readers should know that this rally was organized by our Mid-Peninsula American Dream Council, a council of MoveOn. We work in support of Van Jones' Rebuild the American Dream movement, and though many of us support the Occupy movement, we are not affiliated with them.
The purpose of yesterday's "We Are the 99%" rally, a national event happening all over the country, was to put pressure on the Super Committee before they finalize their recommendations. Our group is calling for an economy that works for everyone, not one rigged to favor the wealthiest among us. We rallied in front of a long line of empty storefronts, to show the affect this economy is having on the middle class. The highlight of our rally was our video recording of those from the crowd who wanted to speak directly to the members of the Super Committee. They asked for them to make multi-millionaires and corporations pay their fair share; they said it's time for Wall Street to bail out Main Street; they demanded no cuts to the social safety net while the rich get even richer and banks too big to fail in 2008 and allowed to be even bigger today. They want funds spent on education not on wars. They want jobs before spending cuts as the only reasonable path out of this Great Recession. And they want us to return to our American values, to support We the People, and rebuild the American Dream.

What is your opinion of 400 people in America who own more wealth (money) than the next 150,000,000 people combined?
Our government's main purpose is to protect our borders from invasion and to protect us against fraud. Monopolies are a form of fraud. Here are two thoughts for you to ponder. For most of you this won't make any sense. Americans have been dumb-down for a reason

Cliff, If you want to accuse anybody of begging for handouts, why don't you take a look at those 400 that you just mentioned. Many of them probably took a slice of the biggest handout in our nation's history when the banks got bailed out.. Also, you're misquoting that statistic. It is the bottom 150million, not those directly below the top 400.

Vanessa and ctpiazza, Buckley Stone at Pete's Harbor says it is because some time ago the CityRead More dredged near muni and ran a pipe under to spill it out at Bair Island, so it is actually the remains of rotting sea life. He knows so much about this area having been at Pete's for 20 years and knowing so much about the area the tides and the nature and land around here.
