Free Devil's Slide Shuttle Service Begins Saturday

The new shuttle service offers 17 stops in Pacifica, and there may even be room on board for bikes and surfboards.

Need a lift from Lundy Way to Linda Mar?

Starting this Saturday a free shuttle service open to the public will operate on weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing transportation for Pacifica residents and visitors alike from as far south as Devil’s Slide to as far north as Jean Brink Pool at Oceana High School.

It’s called the Devil’s Slide Ride, and the first ride departs this Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. from the Pacifica Community Center at 540 Crespi Drive. The shuttle will not go to Devil's Slide until the tunnel project is completed.

“It's pretty cool to get transportation funding for the coastside,” said Pacifica Parks, Beaches & Recreation Commissioner Cindy Abbott. “Often monies are allocated to the El Camino corridor and not this way.”

Funding for the shuttle is provided for through a grant from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) Measure A and the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County (C/CAG).

“Councilmember Mary Ann Nihart and the City of Pacifica have been key in bringing this to Pacifica on the part of City Council,” said Abbott.

Other sponsors are the Pacifica Chamber of Commerce, Pacifica Hotel Business Improvement District, and Recology of the Coast.

The new shuttle service offers 17 stops and takes approximately one hour to complete the loop. There may even be room for bikes and surfboards, said Abbott. The hope is that the shuttle service will reduce vehicle miles traveled on the weekends by offering the opportunity to get up and down Pacifica without having to drive your own car.

The shuttle route will serve the following locations:

• Linda Mar Park & Ride

• Pacifica Senior Center/Community Center

• Fassler Avenue/Highway 1

• Highway 1/Reina Del Mar

• Lundy Way/Sharp Park Golf Course

• Francisco Boulevard/City Hall

• Paloma Avenue/Oceana HS & Pool

• Oceana Terrace Senior Housing

• Paloma Avenue/Beach Boulevard

• Beach Boulevard/Montecito Avenue

• Beach Boulevard/Clarendon Road

• Francisco Boulevard/Sharp Park Golf Course

• Bradford Way/Mori Point

• Highway 1/Reina Del Mar

• Dondee Way/Rockaway Beach Avenue

• Pacifica State Beach

• Devil's Slide (upon completion of the Devil’s Slide Tunnel Project by Caltrans)

Once the tunnel project is complete, the shuttle will be expanded to include the Devil’s Slide Tunnel Bridge turn around, providing access from Pacifica to the Devil’s Slide hiking and viewing area.

What is up with the Tribune? There is a pic on the front page regarding the Shuttle but no article of information. So I turn to Patch to the info, thanks!

Thank you Mark P. for finding out about the racks! That's great news. Steve, I recommend calling the same number -- (650) 738-3767 -- to find out about the app. And Carolyn, so wonderful you found the information you needed on Patch!

Would love for this to make it to a Montara stop like the post office. Sam Trans strands us with very infrequent buses over the slide. A shuttle picking up where the bus ends in Montara could open up Pacifica businesses to its coastal neighbors. Kids especially will benefit. Please don't encourage more parking at tunnel's end.

Why doesn't this include the Fairmont Center at the top of Hickey Blvd. and the Manor Shopping center at the bottom?
