Do You Agree with Supreme Court's Health Care Reform Decision?

In a complicated decision, the justices upheld most of the health care reform legislation popularly known as Obamacare.

Do you agree with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision Thursday upholding most of President Obama's signature health care reform legislation?

By a 5-4 vote, the justices upheld most of the act, although the opinion is a complicated one. The court upheld the requirement that every American purchase health insurance or else pay a penalty, as a tax decision and upheld it on those grounds, in an opinion written by Chief Justice Roberts.

"Our precedent demonstrates that Congress has the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000 under the taxing power, and that Section 5000 need not be read to do more than impose a tax," Roberts wrote in one of the key sentences from the opinion.

If the Supreme Court voted the Affordable Care Act down, then Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security would logically be endangered as well. I'd rather pay a little to keep someone well than pay a lot for them to go to the Emergency Room. And I'm so happy that insurance companies can no longer deny coverage to children or others with pre-existing conditions. I'm also glad hospitals won't be forced to close due to lack of pay from the uninsured.

Whatever happened to "No Taxation without Representation"? Obama told everyone-"This is not a tax" yet the Supreme Court decided it is even though it is not their job to fix poorly written legislation. States who choose to opt out will put those less fortunate into an even worse situation then they were before this horrible 2700 page monstrosity that it seems even the Supreme Court did not take the time to read. As Nancy Pelosi said-"We have to vote it into law to see what is in it" and now the Supreme Court has in effect said "We will pass this new tax that Obama said is NOT a new tax to see how badly Americans are affected by this new tax" It's time to start dumping some TEA!!
