County Candidate Crowdfunding Campaign Debt Payments

Memo Morantes needs a few thousand dollars.

Memo Morantes, candidate for San Mateo County Supervisor, is asking his fans to help him pay his campaign debt today, days after losing in the June 5 election.

sent an email message to his supporters Monday that detailed how much he owes to graphic designers, printers, and other professional service providers that he utilized during his campaign. He said that many of them gave him a line of credit, so he could make campaign mailers and other election materials.

“I implore you to give one more time to help out,” Morantes writes. “It is especially difficult to ask , but our cause is bigger than one election. We will return and we will prevail at some later date, in some later capacity,” he said.

Morantes said that benefactors should consider this an investment in the community that would pay off in the long run.

Morantes owes $10,638.55.

I am very disappointed that Mr. Morantes, a candidate for the San Mateo County Supervisor seat, feels the need to repeatedly ask the citizens to help him pay off his campaign debt after losing the June 5 election. Eileen Cancilla Belmont
