5 Running For Council in Redwood City

Five candidates have now entered the political arena to intellectually contend for a seat on the City Council of Redwood City, said City Clerk Silvia Vonderlinden on Thursday.

In November, three seats become available when the terms of City Councilmembers conclude. Two incumbents, Jeff Gee and John Siebert, will seek re election. Diane Howard is also running. Planning Commissioner Ernie Schmidt is in campaign mode, along with political newcomer Corrin Rankin.

The City Council is composed of seven people who create public policy and have the final say on public policy decisions in Redwood City, which is a charter city.

They interact with the City Manager the way a Board of Directors would with a CEO. Council is in charge of appointing the City Manager, the City Attorney, and commission members. Each member is paid $750 a month.
