For the second time this month, an earthquake centered on the Hayward Fault in Tilden Park near Berkeley rattled the East Bay early today, Tuesday.

The preliminary 3.2-magnitude temblor struck at 1:07 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Two aftershocks of preliminary 2.7 and 2.6 magnitudes hit at 2:06 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. respectively, the USGS said.

The location is almost exactly the same spot – about 1.5 miles northeast of the UC Berkeley main campus – as the 3.0 quake that struck at 9:26 p.m. on Oct. 6.

The depth of this morning's quakes was 7 kilometers, the USGS said, about the same as the one on Oct. 6.
